A: The higher the carat the gold is, the more ductile it becomes. 9ct. is extremely hard in comparison to 18ct., so I guess that everyday use might result in weaknesses developing, but I would think that it’d take decades before it would result in the chain becomming severely affected, unless of course it’s being pulled and dragged at on a reglar basis when you wear it

A: Depends on so many factors including frequency of use and your body’s chemistry.
If you take care of it, and it’s from a proper jewelry store, it could last ages. If it wears off you can take it in and have it replated for a small fee.
If it’s from a costume jewelry store I wouldn’t expect great things from it.
