or this one?

They seem pretty cheap for 14 KT gold but I was wondering what your opinions were on buying gold from ebay or if anyone has??

A: doesnt work

Q: How would a gold and opal necklace have been crefted?
A gold necklace with different shapes linked together with chains, what would be the production process of this? Would a metal cast have been made?

A: I can’t tell you a whole lot without having seen it.

The bezels may have been cast, or they may have been forged. They could be made out of any metal.

But you can’t cast metal with opal in it. Opal is quartz with water in it and the opal will be destroyed if it’s left under high heat. It also means you don’t want to leave your opal necklace in a hot car.

Of course, I’m guessing this is a real opal necklace, and not a created opal necklace. There are a couple types of created opals and they vary in quality.

Q: How much can I sell a white gold necklace for?
Selling a white gold necklace perhaps on eBay or at a pawnbroker.

Purchased quite a few years ago (4-5years). The main decorative piece of the necklace and the chain each cost about $110 Australian, about $220 total.

Both pieces are white gold. There is no case, just the necklace. Don’t know any more about it.

Any thoughts on what it would be worth to a second hand buyer/what kind of price I could expect on selling?

A: Well I just don’t have enough details on the piece to give you a clear answer. Generally if it you take it to a pawn broker you will just get weight value of it, which would be very little, whatever the price of gold is per ounce, probably around twenty dollars. They would melt it down to make other pieces.

Now, if the necklace has some interesting features to it, or a story behind it, you can sell it to an interested buyer. You can try posting to ebay, keep in mind they only allow one free picture to be posted of the item, others you will have to pay for. It’s all in the salesmanship.
Does the necklace tell a story?
Where did you get it?
Who made it?
How rare is this particular item?
How old is it?
You might perhaps be able to get what you paid for it with a good enough story. You might even pick up a cheap velvet jewelry case at a pawn shop or garage sale to add a finishing touch to your product.

However, in these very tough economic times, you’re mostly likely going to have to take a cut to get it off your hands. Go to Ebay and search for similar items. Put them on your watch list and see what they wind up selling for. You’ll know about how much your item will get then.

In the end though, the old economic saying still holds true: “something is worth what someone will give you for it.” If you can convince someone that your item is unique, they will be willing to pay more for it.

I hope my advice has helped, I’m an avid ebay seller and frequently answer questions in this category.

Q: How can you tell if a necklace is real solid gold?
I am trying to sell a crucafix gold necklace online but I can’t tell if it is real gold. I think that it is but how can I find out? It has a gold chain and the cross it self is gold and the jesus is silver or white gold. can anyone help me out? This necklace was bought my one of my relatives and by my knowledge, he only buys real gold…not fake. thanks in advance.

A: The lack of a hallmark (10k, 14k, 18k etc.) is not indicative of whether your piece is gold or not. In the United States it is against the FTC’s regulations for the jeweler to hallmark a piece of jewelry unless it is accompanied by a maker’s mark. So, when I first began making jewelry and did not have a trademark of my own, I did not hallmark my jewelry. Now that I have a maker’s mark, I hallmark my jewelry with the appropriate metal hallmark and my maker’s mark.

A jeweler cannot just look at a piece and tell you for certain whether it is gold or not; the jeweler will do a test to determine it.

To be scientfically accurate a sample of the metal in question must be assayed in a testing laboratory, but the following two tests have been used for many years and often are sufficiently accurate for a craftsperson or the owner of the metal in question.

To answer “Is It Gold?”:

With a small file, make a scratch in an inconspicuous spot. While wearing rubber gloves, use a wooden, glass or plastic stick to apply a drop of nitric acid to the filed spot. Observe the reaction. When done, rinse everything well in running water.

If there is no reaction, it’s gold.
If there’s a bright green reaction, it’s base metal.
If there’s green in the scratch, it’s a gold layer over base metal (goldplate).
If there’s a milky reaction in the scratch, it’s a gold layer over silver.

To answer “What Karat Is It?”

Determining karat requires a testing kit containing nitric acid, aqua regia, samples of known karat, and a touchstone of slate or ceramic.

The gold object to be tested is rubbed on the stone (“touched”) to leave a streak. A parallel line is made with one of the test pieces of known karat. Both marks are flooded with acid and the reaction are observed. When the sample colors at the same rate as the test streak, a match has been made. Nitric acid is used for low karat golds; aqua regia is needed for higher karats.

Please note: these tests are for your information only. They are not accurate enough to rely upon when representing a piece for sale. Most jewelers have testing kits to use when determining if something is gold or not and its approximate karat. It is probably easiest to take the item to a jeweler than to set up the testing kits yourself.

Q: Where is the best place to buy a gold necklace or chain?
I would like to purchase a solid gold 26″ necklace that is not overpriced. I also do not want a cheap imitation. Do you have any suggestions on where to buy a good quality, low priced chain?

Thanks!

Q: How much is my gold necklace worth?
I have a 14k gold necklace that was purchased for $300. How much should I expect a jeweler/pawn shop to pay me for it?

A: don’t pawn it! they will pay you less than what you bought it for, but with the price of gold going up (like 800 for an ounce) , they will melt it down and get top dollar. I’d hold on to it. if you need money, sell something else, like your ipod or something, the value of electronics decreases over time.

Q: How do I get out my gold necklace?
I dropped my necklace into the side of my bathroom counter. There is no way to get to the floor other than through the crack i dropped it down. The Necklace is made out of gold and diamonds. Any suggestions on how to retrieve it?

A: If it has no discoloration it is probably a fair quality. The weight would also be fairly high for something that size.
Also, gold jewelery usually has a small flat piece that shows how many carats the gold is.
