The Work Opportunity Tax Credit provides employers in the Renewal Community (RC) -- or outside the RC boundaries -- with an incentive to hire individuals from groups that have particularly high unemployment rates or other special employment needs. The credit can be worth up to $2,400 against federal taxes for each new eligible employee hired and up to $1,200 for each new summer youth hire. For Long-Term Family Assistance recipients, employers can save up to $9,000 per new hire, over a two-year time period (40% of the first $10,000 in wages for the first year and 50% for the second year).
Who’s Eligible
- Employers located inside or outside the Atlanta Renewal Community boundary may qualify for this credit.
Potential Employees:
- A family member that is receiving or recently received Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits for any 9-month period during the 18-month period ending on the hiring date
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients
The Georgia Department of Labor must certify that an employee is a member of one of the eligible groups.
