Q: i have a chain that I think is white gold?
I bought this chain a few years back from a lady who was selling silver chains. But on the chain it has a stamp that says “18ktch”. The chain has never turned green or any other color. What does “18ktch” means? Could it be she sold me a real white gold chain for $20?
She might of sold me this chain by mistake, since she was a spanish lady.

One other point worth remembering is that white gold has to be plated with rhodium to give it a good finish, if you are going to wear it constantly the rhodium is likely to wear off at some point although this could be some time,when this happens you would mean that you would need to get it re-rhodiumed or you would need to replace the chain to keep it looking its best.

But the most acceptable ones are silver- gold is try too hard and girly, and rather thick- 5 or 6 mms.

They are very special to me and I don’t want to ruin them.

A: Since silver is a very delicate thing to wash, you have to be very careful!!! You can ruin your silver jewelry even in silver jewelry cleaner. What you need to do is rub baby oil on your piece of jewelry and then once all the gunk is out, buff it with some silver polish and a lint free cloth. If the fist part does not work, use Goof Off or Goo Be Gone spray. It is always okay to rinse your piece in water, but be careful about open drains and never get silver in salt water(like the ocean and stuff). Hope that helps!
