Q: Gold chains?
Where can I buy some inexpensive gold looking chains? I’m not talking about actual gold chains from an expensive jeweler. What stores can I find gold chains at?
A: Any of the shops in the malls. They usually run anywhere from $10 – $50 depending on the length and thickness you get. They are real gold usually 10 – 18k and a lot of times the stores offer some type of warranty on their products if they break within a certain amount of time. Also places like Walmart, JcPenney, Kohl’s and various other stores carry some gold items. I would go to the mall first though! Happy Shopping!
Q: Gold Chains?
I have been looking for a specific chain. I wanted the one that looked like John Gotti-Angello. The gold chain that has his name vertically on it. It is really shiny, and looks like one of those snake chains. Here is a pic of it. It is the second chain he has on. Not the one with the cross on it.

A: i am almost sure he had the name made by a jeweler and had it made to fit the chain.
I suggest you draw a sketch of how you want it done and take it to a private jeweler – not a nationally known chain i.e., zales, jareds, etc, but a private jeweler.
Q: gold chains??
hey I’ve heard of these places that BUY your old broken gold items to melt them down. any suggestions?
A: I saw it on the news, they actually come to your house, weigh the gold and hand you a check. Check out jewelry stores in your area.
Q: How are gold chains marked to identify the gold in them?
Gold chains come in 10k, 14k, 24k, plated, filled, and I’d like to know how to identify which are which.
A: It’s hard because sometimes a fake chain can be marked real and a rela chain may not be marked. The only way to tell 100% is to take it to a jeweler and have them scratch test it
if you see the number 14kt and then letters GEP or GP or GF that can mean gold plated, filled or electro plated

I have 2 gold rope chains that are 18k. One is 24″ and the other is 18″. They are solid gold. The prices on E-bay are ALL over the place. Does solid gold chains like this have good value? They are very heavy!

Q: Why do Italians (especially Sicilians) and Hispanics wear gold chains?
I’ve noticed this that they were gold chains morseso that Irish and Polish Catholics. I assume this comes from the fact that Catholics as opposed to Prodestants are more flashy (you can see this in churches) but I have hardly ever seen an Italian or Hispanic without some kind of necklace, and I was wondering if this was a cultural thing or like part of the “Latin Lover” look, to be worn with pec muscles, chest hair, and an open collar. I’ve noticed you see it more in the working-class than the upper-middle class, but maybe some could share stories.
A: The gold necklace is a religious tradition. Some consider it superstitious as the necklace is considered a charm.
It has nothing to do with sex or appeal, as typically parents put it on their children’s neck.
Some people keep it all life, others stop wearing it when they grow up.
Typically it is a very thin chain, and it contains a cross (meaning a crucifix) or a disk (meaning a sacred host). Often on the back of the cross or of the disk it is engraved the name of the child, or a date, to make it (almost) unique.
Some consider it like a identity tag, similar to the military one.
By the way, nowadays chest hair is quite out of fashion, like mustaches. Most Italian hairy men shave regularly their chest. But not all Italians are hairy, so many don’t have to shave.
Q: Why do so many poverty stricken Obama supporters wear gold chains?
do they wear chains because:
1. They disagree with Obama’s monetary policy and are buying/displaying gold as protest to our falling dollar?
2. They think that it makes them look rich?
3. Its some sort of ghetto fabulous mating sign?
I’m just a white guy trying to understand other cultures… Any help would be appreciated.
A: 3
I have no idea why poverty struck people were such expensive jewelry and some have really nice cars.
Then live in the nastiest project?
Who knows I do not?

Q: difference between 14k gold plated and 14k gold filled chains?
hi, i’ll like to ask what’s the difference between 14k gold plated and 14k gold filled. (in terms of costume jewellery gold chains) are they the same?
also, at an estimate, how much can i buy them for?
A: 14k plated, means there is an electro thin plating of 14k gold. Therefore, the core that has the plating is a base metal or alloy (i.e. copper, etc.) Over time it can “chip” and wear down to the base metal.
14k filled means that it has more 14k content and is mixed with another metal (often copper). It is if they are “mixed” together aka filled.
So they are quite different.
Gold is at it’s most right now and filled is much more expensive overall. It costs more, but if its something you want to keep for a while…totally worth it.
Q: How to un-tarnish gold plated chains and brass charms?
I’ve got some gold plated chains that have tarnished and would like to know how to clean them so they look practically new. In addition, how to do clean brass charms and retard tarnish on brass charms?
A: Gold does not tarnish, I wonder what alloy the chains are?
You can clean brass with Brasso.
Q: how much money will i get at a pawn shop for 2 10kt. gold chains?
i have two gold chains that i dont ever use! how much do you think i’ll get for them if i pawn them off?
A: The pawn shop will want to pay you less than 25% of the value of the chains, so that they have some hope of making money by selling them. They will figure the value by gold content or by expected resale price. It won’t be much.
If the pawnshop already is awash in unsold gold chains they might even refuse them. 10kt gold is only about 40% gold.
